Evaluation Information

In order to assess the quality of the curriculum at UCLA, students are required to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of course components and faculty teaching. This information is used by course directors and the Medical Education Committee to plan future curriculum. Your feedback is considered very important by these groups. Using the online evaluation system, student comments and responses are anonymous and secure. Two database files record scores so that student names are tracked on one database and responses on another. Also, information is not given out until course grades are received in Student Affairs.

Deadlines

Students always have 2 weeks to complete an evaluation.

Mid-course evaluations - Many courses will have students evaluate faculty whose teaching contributions have finished by the midpoint in the course. This is done to allow students to both allow students to give more timely feedback and to lessen the evaluation burden at the end of the course. Mid-course evaluations are due 2 weeks from the active date.

End of course evaluations - End of course evaluations are either made available on the last teaching day of the course or on the day of the final exam. The date is determined by whether the course is asking for feedback on the final exam. The deadline will be 2 weeks from the date the evaluation is made available to students. Evaluation deadlines are not extended due to taking exams late.

Some deadlines may fall during a break (holiday period). You will need to complete any outstanding evaluations prior to the break if you will be traveling or otherwise away from computer access during the break.

Compliance

Completion of evaluations is required to receive a grade in each course, and failure to complete them in a timely manner is considered a reflection of the student’s professionalism. Failure to complete evaluations by the deadline will result in the evaluation office being required to submit a physicianship professionalism form for Student Affairs. We do not ever like to submit these forms, please contact the evaluation office promptly if you are having difficulty meeting the evaluation requirement.
