Evaluation Information

In order to assess the quality of the curriculum at UCLA, students are required to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of clerkship rotations, sites, faculty teaching. This information is used by clerkship & site directors and the Medical Education Committee to plan future curriculum. Your feedback is considered very important by these groups. Using the online evaluation system, student comments and responses are anonymous and secure. Two database files record scores so that student names are tracked on one database and responses on another. Also, information is not given out until clerkship evaluations of students are received in Student Affairs.

Clerkship evaluations consist of the following components. All evaluations are required. If a link appears in your survey list, you are required to complete that evaluation or notify the evaluation office if you feel it is an error.

  • Orientation Evaluation - made available the last day of the orientation. Due in 2 weeks.

  • Radiology Lecturer Evaluation - Due 2 weeks from the last day of the rotation

  • Site/Service Evaluation - Students evaluate each site or service (for Surgery). These evaluations are made available at the start of the clerkship should students want to complete as they finish each site/service. These evaluations are due 2 weeks from the last day of the clerkship.

  • Clerkship Rotation Evaluations - In addition to the sites, students evaluate the overall clerkship. Due 2 weeks from the last day of the clerkship.

  • Lecturer/PBL/Tutor Evaluations - Some Clerkships will have students evaluate lecturers and small group (Problem Based Learning and/or Tutor) faculty. Due 2 weeks from the last day of the clerkship.

PLEASE NOTE: Some sites may ask students to complete evaluations separate from the official CoursEval™ evaluations. Your participation in these evaluations is voluntary per Dr. Neil Parker, Sr. Assoc. Dean of Student Affairs. The School of Medicine has no control over student anonymity and confidentiality of these unauthorized evaluations. Completing unauthorized evaluations does not fulfill the School of Medicine evaluation requirement. You will still have to complete the online evaluations.

Compliance

Completion of evaluations is required to receive a grade in each clerkship, and failure to complete them in a timely manner is considered a reflection of the student’s professionalism. Failure to complete evaluations by the deadline will result in the evaluation office being required to submit a physicianship professionalism form for Student Affairs. We do not ever like to submit these forms, please contact the evaluation office promptly if you are having difficulty meeting the evaluation requirement.
