FAQS (frequently asked questions) The questions below have been submitted by medical students over the past few years. We will update this page as needed. If you have a question not covered below, please email us. We are here to answer your questions and concerns. Am I required to complete evaluations? Yes. All students are required to complete evaluations. Evaluation is an important and ongoing part of your career. Effective and timely evaluation is an important skill. During medical school, you will be evaluating faculty and the curriculum. Later you will be evaluating faculty (during residency), peers, and staff. The school's evaluation requirement is discussed during the first week of medical school (Foundations Week) when students sign an evaluation agreement for the Student Affairs Office. Students are assigned to complete evaluations based on information received from Student Affairs and/or curriculum chairs. When an evaluation appears in your survey list, this means the evaluation office has been asked to assign you to that evaluation. If you feel an assignment is in error, you only need to contact the evaluation office and we will remove/verify the assignment. How can the evaluations be anonymous if I have to log in? The evaluation program has been specifically designed to store login data in a separate database from your evaluation responses. Your responses are summarized into a report for distribution. Faculty only have access to these summary reports and then only after grades/evaluations have been received in Student Affairs. Non-compliance information is only shared with Dr. LuAnn Wilkerson, Sr. Associate Dean of Medical Education and Dr. Neil Parker, Sr. Associate Dean of Student Affairs. I forgot my login and/or password Your login is your Full Name (case sensitive), and your password is set to your 9 digit student ID by default. You can change your password once you login. If you forget your changed password, or don't have your student ID with you, the system can email your password to your email address. There is a link just below the login screen for this feature. If you no longer have access to the email account that is registered in the evaluation system, you can click on the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the password retrieval page. Do I have to do the evaluations on campus (i.e. in the IMF)? No, you can access the evaluations via the internet from anywhere in the world. If you are accessing the pages from off campus, you will have to login to the secure website just as you would any SOM course page. The program is equally PC and Mac compatible, and works with Internet Explorer and Mozilla browsers. The program does not work with AOL or Compuserve. If your computer does not meet your classes' computing requirement, or you choose to use AOL or Compuserve over the free** UCLA Bruin Online internet service, you will have to complete the evaluations on campus.**Toll charges may apply if you are connecting from outside the UCLA local calling area Why do some evaluations have pictures of faculty and others don't? Collecting photos of the faculty is an ongoing large project. Currently, there are over 6800 faculty with appointments in the School of Medicine alone. 1778 unique faculty were involved in teaching for the 2003-2004 academic year. Students have indicated that having the photos make it much easier to remember the faculty so we continue to request photos from the courses and clerkships. |
